Happy Birthday to Us- Chelsi

By Chelsi Slotten

It’s hard to believe, but our first podcast came our a year ago this month.   To celebrate, some of the hosts have written up pieces about what this past year has meant to us.  So without further ado here’s mine:

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been a year already!!  This project actually started a little bit before that with an idea and a group of women, none of whom I’d met in real life, committed to turning that idea into reality.  The result of course is the 21 podcasts we’ve produced over the last year.  Since our first podcast on the Oregon Military standoff we’ve covered tons of topics, ranging from the perception of women in the field to how to make the most of conferences to the impacts of political change on the discipline.  I can honestly say it’s been an amazing journey.  I feel super blessed to be involved in this podcast.  I’ve heard so many different perspectives and enjoyed the opportunities the show has provided.  I’ve met this amazing group of women, some of them face-to-face now, who I happily call friends and have learned so much from them.  We’ve also become part of a larger podcasting community, connecting  me with people I might not have met otherwise.  As amazing as all of this has been, I know it wouldn’t be possible without you, the listeners.  I am so proud of what we are doing and so happy that people want to listen to our show.  Almost 3,000 people subscribe to our show last I checked.  I’ve loved hearing from some of you and welcoming new people into our podcast family as listeners become contributors and relationships are formed though emails and conversations.  Thank you so much for joining us for the journey so far and we’re looking forward to what next year will bring!

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the past year!  Feel free to leave a comment below, find us on twitter (@womenarchys), or email us at WomeninArchaeology@gmail.com.
